Once the wedding plans are complete, and you are happily married to your spouse, it is time to consider how to make two homes into one. This is an exciting time, but can also be stressful without a plan in place. Consider the below tips and discuss with your spouse. Being on the same page from the very beginning is essential. Here are some tips on how to begin the transition from the pre-married life to post-married life regarding living spaces:

#1: Discuss Money and Budget

Discussing money from the beginning is incredibly important. Whether you want to combine your bank accounts/savings or keep them separate, this still calls for a conversation. Maybe you will be opening a whole new account altogether. Whatever the case may be, make sure you budget in for your new mortgage and expenses together. Have a game plan, and this transition will be much smoother.

#2: Set Household Rules

Do you prefer to have guests take their shoes off at the front door? Do you want help with chores? Put all of these preferences on the table and discuss any household rules that are important to you and your spouse.

#3: Purge and Organize Possessions

Now that you are combining your lives and possessions, it might be a good time to purge and organize to make room for new items. Keep the things that you truly love and couldn’t live without, and part with anything that does not bring you happiness. A clutter-free space from the start will ensure a happier atmosphere.

#4: Organize Furniture

If you are doubling up on furniture, it is important to choose what works best with your decor choices. Decide on what stays and what goes together.

#5: Buy New Pieces Together

On the same note as the last point, if there is something your home is missing, shop together! It can be very exciting to buy new pieces together. Make sure that you are both happy with the style, and even seek to decorate your home with things that remind you of each other. So that’s pictures, gifts, and personalized items.

#6: Cook Your First Meal Together

As a bonus tip, it may be fun to cook your very first meal together. This is a memory that you will have forever. Your new house is officially a home, after all!

Moving in after marriage and starting your lives together is such an exciting time. By following the above tips, you and your spouse will be on the same page when it comes to the essential things. A happy and comfortable home is a great way to kick off your life together. Good luck and remember to have a good time. Congratulations!
